NAVIGATING THE POWER TRANSITION

Europe’s largest exhibition and conference dedicated to electric power generation, POWER-GEN Europe, returns to Cologne for its 22nd staging.

POWER-GEN Europe, co-located with Renewable Energy World Europe comprises a comprehensive exhibition floor populated by the major players in the thermal and renewable energy sector. Complementing the exhibition is a multi-track conference that is known for addressing the key issues facing our industry. The theme for the 2014 event is Navigating the Power Transition.

Achieving the balance between affordable, clean and reliable electricity has been the defining challenge of the power industry, since its inception. The European Union’s transition to a low carbon
future - in particular Germany’s much debated “Energiewende” - has placed this delicate balancing act right at the heart of business and political discussion and become the topic for today’s energy experts.

POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe’s community of power professionals will help map out the route through the power transition maze and point to a clean, secure and economic power future.

joint plenary panel discussion

NAVIGATING THE POWER TRANSITION

Wednesday 4 June 2014

14:00 - 15:30

Room: Konrad-Adenaeur-Saal, Congress Centre, Ground Floor

Session is open to all registered delegates

This year’s panel topic develops the overall joint theme of the events, “Navigating the Power Transition”. The panel will take as its starting point the fact that the energy mix in Europe has changed significantly and is fully expected to edge increasingly towards renewables. The panel will be asked to expound their views on how the industry should adapt, what national and European governments can do to smooth the transition, what technologies will be needed to cope with the change and what shape the industry will take as a result of the re-alignments taking place.  Is the transition creating a crisis in the industry that will see some incumbents fail or an opportunity for a re-positioning that will produce new business opportunities? For further information please visit the Plenary Page.

Moderator:  Mr. Karel Beckman, Editor-in-Chief, Energy Post, Netherlands

Panellists:
- Mr. Thorsten Herdan, Managing Director, VDMA, Germany
- Dr. Roland Fischer, Chief Executive Officer, Fossil Power Generation Division, Siemens AG,
